Smiles brighter at Winter Wonderland Ball
The 32nd annual Winter Wonderland Ball was an absolute ball.
Elegant silvery décor laced with white lilies adorned the large ballroom at the Westin Mission Hills Resort & Spa, welcoming about 300 attendees to the Stroke Recovery Center fundraiser held last month.
Honored with the Ann Angel Award for outstanding community service was Andy Linsky.
“The event was absolutely a ball, so much fun,” he said. “The music and entertainment were something I had not experienced before. It knocked me out and got me on the dance floor — a spectacular start to the holiday season.”
He was speaking of the boisterous, high-energy show with singing, dancing and audience participation — the distinctive style of the Wayne Foster Entertainment Group.

Winter Wonderland honor for activist Linsky
You only need to look up at Mt. San Jacinto with its sprinkling of snow to get in the mood for the Stroke Recovery Center's Winter Wonderland Ball due to take place Sunday. The event's theme is a great holiday message: Hope, Help and Heart.
The 32nd Annual Winter Wonderland Ball will honor Palm Springs resident, Realtor and community activist Andy Linsky with the Ann Angel Award for his numerous community contributions.
“For this award we select someone who stands out for their support of community charities,” said Beverly Green, the center's chief executive officer.
Linsky's years of service with Desert AIDS Project and the national Human Rights Campaign, among others, clearly make him a notable choice for the award.

Desert Healthcare District awards $165000 in grants Written by Nicole C. Brambila
The Desert Healthcare District awarded more than $165,000 in grants to help fund valley programs, the organization announced today.
The event was enjoyable; clients had a fantastic time on the driving range hitting folg balls, and also on the putting greens. Clients were forunate enough to receive one-on-one insturctions by some of the colleges golfing pros who volunteered their time.
I want to give a big THANK YOU to those volunteers from College of the Desert, the Stroke Reovery Center, and to Palos Verdes Engineering who allowed us to borrow my father Joe Back for the day to help assist our clients in the "Saving Strokes" event. Without everyone's help we would not have been able to participate.

13th Feb - Today's 5k SRC Girls!
By: Elsa Mejia, Recreation Therapist Assistant at Stroke Recovery Center
I had the pleasure of walking a 5K today, Feb. 13, 2011, with two very inspirational clients! Angie & Mary...
I'm home from my 5k... Two of my clients from the stroke center walked the Palm Springs 5K today and were beyond excited! Angie has done a few but not Mary it was her first time!
Mary is a 3 time stroke survivor and her goal was to do a 5K. She use to do marathons before her stroke so this was something very huge for her today.
Mary was a little ahead then Angie and I didn’t want her to walk alone so Angie told me to catch up and please walk with Mary, and Angie's friend Teddy walked with her. This time was
so special because since Mary had 3 strokes her goal was to walk a 5K! I was so happy to be by her side and encourage her throughout the walk.
She smiled the entire 3.1 miles! It was just amazing and I can't put down into words how rewarding this was for me... When she saw that first mile she was screaming!!! it was unforgettable!
at the 2nd mile she did get a little tired so we slowed down but she was still full of determination. Once we passed the finished line, I sat her down and back tracked until I
found Angie a little over a 1/2 mile back and walked with her & Teddy the rest of the way.. Such a exciting day!!! They’re both ready for another one which is next month also. I'm going to see
if we can get a picture in the Stroke Center's news letter next month... :-) NEVER SAY NEVER!
Greatest surprise for the girls was that Bootsie was at the finish line waiting for them... Stroke Center's Physical Therapist.

12th Dec - Stroke Recovery Center's black-tie affair raises money in a Winter wonderland
Why do some annual events endure while others fade away?
In the case of the Stroke Recovery Center's Winter Wonderland black-tie ball, recently presented for the 31st time, the answer seems to be “adaptation.”
Dedicated Stroke Center supporters like ball chairman Jerome Angel, ball co-chairwoman Lee Appel, auxiliary president Elva French Casey and executive director Beverly Greer have quickly adapted to changing preferences in entertainment, décor and pricing over the years.

29th Nov - Gala Raises Thousands for Stroke Recovery Center
A stroke six years ago may have taken away Kevin Robb's ability to speak but it didn't take away his ability to create art.
"He had a massive stroke," said his wife, Diane Robb. "He was on life support for 13 days. He was in rehab in hospitals for seven weeks and it was art that has brought Kevin back to this world."
His wife has become his spokesperson and skilled craftsmen have become his hands as he creates sculptures. Several can be seen throughout the Coachella Valley - at Jackie Lee Houston Plaza at the Palm Springs Convention Center, at the Marriott in Palm Springs. His stainless-steel sculpture "Points of Inspiration" was shown at the Coda Galley before being auctioned off to raise money for the Palm Springs Stroke Recover Center.
