Recreational Therapy

The recreational therapy program is a comprehensive program offering our clients a variety of options to aid in recovery of cognitive function, light motor skills, memory skills, and explore talents and skills that may be new. The program includes therapeutic games including Wii which offers a high level of competition, arts and crafts, computer instruction, and skill sessions designed to keep abreast of current events, build vocabularies, and engage the mind. Group sessions are scheduled with both clients and families and caregivers discussing issues of concern to each. A part of the program is devoted to socialization – getting to know each other, enjoying and participating in entertainment and exploring talents for just plain fun. Programs run Monday thru Friday from 9:30AM to 12:30PM. Afternoon programs include Bingo on Wednesday and Friday and memory games on the other afternoons. Check the schedule of events to see what is coming up. Check back soon for a video.

Speech Therapy

Speech therapy is available to those who need it on both an individual basis and a group basis. If appropriate, our senior therapist will refer you to an individual appointment with our speech therapist after your initial evaluation. The speech therapist will determine the best course of support to help you regain communication skills. This may range from working one on one with the therapist and volunteers to joining one of our groups building skills or working with our computer assisted communication tools to develop alternative methods of communication. Clients can then schedule their therapies to gain the best possible results. Check back soon for a video.

Exercise Therapy

Exercise is a very important part of recovery and clients are encouraged to participate at the appropriate level for them and build strength while concentrating on balance. We offer both individual and group instruction plus the gym is open for clients to work out on their own with the assistance of staff and volunteers. The gym is open from 9:00AM to 12:00PM, Monday thru Friday and is well used every day. Individual appointments are available Monday, Wednesday and Friday after an evaluation is completed by the Director of the department. Exercise regimes are set up on an individual basis making sure that you are working on what is best for you. Check back soon for a video.

Meals at the Center

There are two times a day that we offer food at the Stroke Recovery Center. Monday thru Friday we offer a heart healthy lunch to clients and caregivers for $3.00 each. This is time for enjoying a good meal with friends and family, getting to know each other and getting good nourishment as well. As morning begins at the Stroke Recovery Center, we offer a limited continental breakfast – usually coffee and bagels, toast and/or sweet rolls for free. This is a time for clients to get caught up with friends, make new friends, plan their day and just enjoy a moment of relaxation before beginning their therapies. However, once 9:30AM rolls around, it is off to work for all clients. Check back soon for a video.
