The Stroke Recovery Center works for stroke survivors and their families helping continue getting better and regaining control over their lives and activities of daily living....... Borrowing an acronym used by Julia Fox Garrison who wrote about her recovery in Don't Leave Me This Way, all of us here at the Stroke Recovery Center LISTEN to each and every one of our clients. L - we lead the clients without using murky or confusing medical jargon I - we inspire our clients to create their own goals S - we see and celebrate the unique characteristics of each client T - we engender trust making our client feel safe and confident E -we provide hope, courage and support encouraging recovery N - we nurture the mind as well as the body We work as partners encouraging the clients and their families to thrive providing help, support and guidance. Our clients achieve great strides in recovery working developing new skills and improving old skills all the while enjoying life and learning to laugh again. This becomes their special place where friend and family can work together toward a common goal and where resources are available to help you with all facets of getting better. While the therapies are focused and effective, we mix the social and just plain fun so that the client never is bored or the program becomes routine. Variety is good for all of us and keeps us engaged and interested. We have been doing this for 30 years and hope we can do it for 30 more .
