Frequently Asked Questions
How does someone become a client?
Anyone who has suffered a stroke or TBI is welcome. We do not turn clients away. Our therapy staff simply conducts a 30-45 minute evaluation appointment to assess the stroke or TBI survivor’s unique rehabilitation needs.
For more information, call
(760) 323-7676, ext. 110 to set up an appointment.
How often can someone attend?
As often as they like. We want clients to feel comfortable and at home. With programs offered Monday through Friday,
8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., some clients visit five days a week; others come for just part of one day. To ensure maximum rehabilitation benefits, we encourage clients to find activities they enjoy one or more days every week. While the stroke or TBI survivor is at the center, a spouse or caregiver can participate in our support groups, or just take the time to relax and reenergize, an important component in living with the after effects of stroke or TBI.
How much does it cost?
We proudly offer all of our services free of charge, as we have for more than 30 years. This helps alleviate the financial burden of long-term rehabilitation and enhance recovery once medical benefits have run out. We are the only center in the country to provide a post-stroke and TBI community with social support and free, comprehensive rehabilitation. Regular donations from clients who are financially able are encouraged and appreciated, as they help us continue our programs.
What does the center offer?
The Stroke Recovery Center offers comprehensive programs for cognitive, physical and social health, focusing on the person as a whole.
- Recreational therapy
- Exercise therapy
- Speech therapy
- Socialization with other stroke and TBI survivors (which helps regain self-confidence and measure independence)
- Support groups for families
How is the center supported?
The Center receives no funds from the federal government. We rely solely on donations from clients, individuals, businesses, foundations, grants and fundraising events. The Center’s small professional staff is aided by a large group of dedicated volunteers. Additional volunteers are always welcome! We need volunteers in various capacities, working directly with clients and/or ancillary services. Please call us to learn more about how you can help out by volunteering or to learn more about making a tax-deductible donation to our organization or our thrift shop.
